Center For Mindfulness

Background: The Center for Mindfulness (CFM) wanted to create a simple meditation app that users could use for short, “mindfulness”, meditation breaks. The ultimate goal was to track the user’s stress level before and after meditation, allowing CFM to gain insight into the effectiveness of short meditations on stress.

Role:  There were 4 people total on our team; 2 developers, 1 product owner, and myself, which served as the designer on the project.

Project:  There were several iterations of the design; I wanted to create a simple design that users could easily select the time they wanted to meditate, and allow them to meditate right away. Since we had specified time intervals for the meditation, a simple grid was used showing the :30 second, 1:00 minute, 2:00 minute and custom duration times. After selecting the time, a stress level dialog would appear, and after the user selects their stress level, the meditation time appears and starts automatically.

For the design of the timer itself, a simple mask on the background image was selected to keep a minimalist design. As time progresses, the mask moves across the screen.

Research was done for the app icon, and a lot of the images associated with meditation involve flowers, so I created an abstract flower icon to be used with the app.
